Countries across the globe are bracing for new stiff tariffs. Justin Timberlake reveals he has a "debilitating" disease. And it's time for one of the biggest music festivals of the summer! |
👋 Howdy! Rebecca Morin here. It's the last day of July. It's almost the weekend. Seems like it's time to celebrate – with Thursday's news! |
Your wallet is soon going to take a hit | Once the clock strikes 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 1, several countries around the globe will face stiff fees on their exports as President Donald Trump's new tariff rates take effect. Countries like Brazil will see a 50% tariff on imports, while South Korea and the European Union have reached deals for a 15% tariff. In April, Trump imposed a baseline 10% tariff that applied to most countries. He has said he is likely to raise the baseline to either 15% or 20% beginning Aug. 1. What to know about the tariff negotiations. |
Goods from India to see price increase: A trade deal between the United States and India fell through. India, the world's fifth-largest economy, relies significantly on the United States, and Indian goods exports to the United Stated totaled $87 billion in 2024. Products like pharmaceuticals, smartphones and jewelry could see a price increase. More products the U.S. relies on most from India. | A pharmacist works at his shop in New Delhi on July 31. A popstar battling a 'debilitating' disease | There's been nerve pain, fatigue and sickness. Justin Timberlake revealed on July 31 that he has been "battling some health issues" and was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Timberlake, 44, said he was shocked about the diagnosis, but it has helped him understand why he's experienced fatigue while performing during his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which began in 2024. Timberlake recently faced backlash on social media as some fans argued he had been delivering subpar performances on stage. |
What is Lyme disease? Lyme disease is an "illness caused by Borrelia bacteria" that humans typically get from a tick bite, according to the Mayo Clinic. When gone untreated, Lyme disease can produce a wide range of symptoms depending on the stage of infection, including fever, rash, facial paralysis, irregular heartbeat and arthritis. Manny Carabel, Getty Images for Audacy | I've spent much of this week in the Washington, D.C., area drenched… with sweat because of the mid-to-high 90-degree weather. Now, rain is moving into the Northeast on Thursday evening, threatening flooding in several communities. A moderate risk of heavier rain is forecast over New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania and Maryland, with a lower risk of excessive rain stretching from northern and eastern Virginia into southern Massachusetts. But don't expect the rain to last too long, as conditions will begin improving on Friday. One of summer's biggest festival | It's time to dance, scream the lyrics and see some of the world's biggest pop stars. Lollapalooza 2025 kicks off in Chicago on July 31 and ends Aug. 3. The four-day festival is bringing an array of performers from indie darling Clairo to Tyler, the Creator; country star Luke Combs; and Disney stars-turned-pop sensations Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter. As someone who has repeatedly tried and failed to score tickets to see Olivia Rodrigo, I'm very jealous of those attending this festival this weekend!
