Texas Democrats leave state to block redistricting vote |
Democratic lawmakers in Texas have a message for their Republican counterparts: Don't mess with the state's congressional districts. Democratic state lawmakers left the state to deny Republicans the quorum on Monday needed to redraw the state's 38 congressional districts. The move is an attempt by Republicans to protect the party's narrow House majority in next year's midterm elections. President Donald Trump has backed Texas' redistricting plan. |
Democratic state Rep. James Talarico said in a video shot in front of an airport that the redistricting plan amounted to "rigging" the 2026 elections. The White House got a little Mar-a-Lago flair. The Rose Garden, which has hosted countless presidential affairs since its 1913 inception, was recently paved over at the direction of Trump. Rose bushes and other vegetation remain on the garden's periphery.
