Hurricane Irma is rocking 185 mph winds

"Do not sit and wait for this storm to come," Florida Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday. "Get out now." He warned that Hurricane Irma is fiercer than Hurricane Andrew, the Category 5 storm that pummeled South Florida 25 years ago, killed 65 people and wiped out entire neighborhoods with its ferocious winds. As for  Irma, the storm is the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history. It's headed toward Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba before likely hitting South Florida over the weekend. If Irma hits the U.S. as a Category 5, it would be the fourth such hurricane in recorded history to do so. Why do hurricanes even exist? This is the science behind these monster storms.

Well, this is awkward. Trump sides with Democrats on debt limit

President Trump endorsed a short-term increase in the nation's debt limit suggested by Democratic congressional leaders Wednesday, a strategy that House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., had earlier rejected as "ridiculous." After a meeting at the White House, Trump cut a deal with Democrats to fund the government and raise the federal borrowing limit for three months, part of an agreement to speed money to Hurricane Harvey relief. Trump confirmed the deal to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way to North Dakota. Congress must pass a spending bill by Sept. 30 to keep the government open, and the federal government also needs an increase in the debt limit to continue paying its bills.

The holidays are coming. Don't be the parent who misses out on the Hatchimal

You've got time, so study up. These are the 25 hottest toys , according to Walmart. This year, the Hatchimal is back with a new toy called Hatchimal Surprise. Also on the list: Fingerlings, Num Noms Nail Polish Maker and the Soggy Doggy board game. A few of Walmart's choices were in line with the predictions of Amazon, which for the first time released its own top 25 holiday toy picks last week. Both retailers included the Cars 3 Ultimate Florida Speedway and Paw Patrol My Size Lookout Tower. And yes, you are correct: It isn't even Halloween yet. Time to start shopping?

Girl pulls sword from lake of King Arthur's Excalibur

Once upon a time last week, in fair Cornwall, England, a young girl waded the fabled waters of Dozmary Pool. 'Twas there, legend has it, a dying King Arthur left his famed sword, Excalibur. In that same lake, Matilda Jones, 7, glimpsed a treasure. She called to her father, who replied with disbelief. "I told her not to be silly and it was probably a bit of fencing," Paul Jones, 51, told the Mirror newspaper . "But when I looked down I realized it was a sword." Wow. Matilda may not be the Lady of the Lake, but she's now one schoolgirl with a fabulous tale.

#mustread: Sometimes, a golf club membership means a chance to talk to Trump

Because membership lists at President Trump's private golf clubs are secret, the public has been unable to assess the conflicts they could create — until now. USA TODAY found the names of 4,500 members by reviewing social media and a public website golfers use to track their handicaps, then researched and contacted hundreds to determine whether they had business with the government. What we learned: For the first time in U.S. history, wealthy people with interests before the government have a chance for close and confidential access to the president as a result of payments that enrich him personally. It really is a must-read.
