Bannon's burns come to light in new book

The White House drama Wednesday was more Mean Girls than All the President's Men after published excerpts from a book showcased blistering burns from President Trump's former adviser Steve Bannon. In Michael Wolff's forthcoming book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House , Bannon is quoted as calling Ivanka Trump "dumb as a brick" and saying Donald Trump Jr. would crack like "an egg on national TV" if the Russia investigation turns to money laundering. The book also says Bannon called Trump Jr.'s meeting with a Russian lawyer who offered dirt on Hillary Clinton "unpatriotic" and "treasonous." Trump quickly responded with a statement diminishing Bannon's role: "Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency," Trump said. "When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind." Ouch.

No, Trump doesn't have a button to launch nukes. He has a 'football', possibly a 'biscuit'

North Korea's Kim Jong Un and President Trump each have boasted they can launch nuclear weapons with the push of a button. Trump — who said his is "bigger" — has no such button, and it is likely that Kim doesn't have one either, nuclear experts say . The reality of launching a nuclear war is more complex. What's required: 1) The president meets with his advisers. 2) If a go is decided, the nuclear "football," the satchel always near the president that contains documents on various nuclear options, would be needed. Some presidents carry codes on a pocket-sized card, or "biscuit." 3) A special Pentagon command center would issue orders that go directly to locations that can launch nuclear missiles. As for North Korea, far less is known about its process.

You've been warned about the 'bomb cyclone' of winter weather. Now, about your car ...

The winter storm dumping rare ice and snow from Florida to North Carolina was getting stronger Wednesday as it pushed up the eastern seaboard. It's a violent "bomb cyclone," or winter hurricane, that could produce blizzard conditions and hurricane-like winds to eastern New England and up to 2 feet of snow in parts of Maine. If you're in the zone and not yet prepared, get that way. We have a list of things not to keep in your car, including iPhones, eggs and cans of soda (trust us). Please take care of your pets, and make sure you're dressed appropriately.

Former Taliban hostage now facing sexual assault charges

Remember the horrifying story of Joshua Boyle, his wife and their three children a man held captive by Taliban-linked militants for five years in Afghanistan and Pakistan before they were rescued in October? Their story has taken a turn : Boyle is now facing 15 charges, including two counts of sexual assault and eight counts of assault, the Toronto Star reports. The victims were not identified. He appeared in an Ottawa courtroom Wednesday. His wife, Caitlan Boyle, told the Star she couldn't talk about the charges but blamed "the strain and trauma he was forced to endure for so many years" as being "most culpable" for the situation.

The Internet is trolling Oregon for not pumping its own gas

For the first time — in counties with fewer than 40,000 people — Oregonians are allowed to pump their own gas . That's because of a law that went into effect Jan. 1 and, well, not everyone is happy about it. KTVL CBS 10 News in Medford, Ore., posted a Facebook poll asking followers if Oregon should allow self-serve gas stations statewide. Some of the, um, concerned responses have gone viral. For example: "I don't even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian.....I say NO THANKS! I don't want to smell like gasoline!" As for the rest of us: What's getting more expensive in 2018? Gas for your car . (P.S.: The only other state that doesn't allow you to pump your own gas is New Jersey.)
