Mueller's in the giving mood |
| The window into special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation could become clearer tomorrow: In Washington, prosecutors are due to file papers outlining Paul Manafort's repeated lies and additional "crimes" leading to the breach of his plea deal. Meanwhile, in New York, Mueller's team is also scheduled to file a sentencing memorandum for its newest cooperating witness – former Trump lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen. |

| Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, was convicted on eight counts of financial fraud in a trial in August. Ten other counts were dismissed after the jury deadlocked. In September, Manafort agreed to cooperate with Mueller's team as part of a plea agreement to avoid a second trial in the District of Columbia. He then violated that agreement and lied. |
| Last month, Cohen abruptly pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the extent of plans for a Trump real-estate deal in Moscow, which continued into June 2016. Cohen has cooperated with Mueller since pleading guilty in August to making six-figure hush payments to women claiming they had extramarital affairs with Trump. |
'Gampy' goes to his final resting place |
| Former President George H.W. Bush was remembered by more friends and family in Houston at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. His oldest grandson, George P. Bush, told stories of his "gampy" serving ice cream bars and offering kids a "first-to-sleep" award. Rev. Russell Levenson Jr., noted that Bush and his wife were "devoted members" of the church for more than 50 years. Bush's former secretary of state James Baker, who was by his side during his final hours Friday, described the relationship between the two statesmen as one of "big brother and little brother." The funeral was also marked with musical tributes from the late former president's favorite country acts. |

| The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the Golden Globes nominations, and among stars missing from the list were those named Ryan — Gosling, Coogler and Reynolds. The Dick Cheney biopic "Vice" looks like the clear favorite this year, picking up six nominations. Oscar contender "A Star Is Born" received five nominations, including Lady Gaga for best dramatic actress and Bradley Cooper for best dramatic actor. The 76th annual awards show, co-hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg, will reveal winners on Jan. 6. See a full list of those nominated here. |

One Marine is dead and five others are missing after warplanes crashed |
| A Marine refueling plane and a fighter jet collided on Thursday before crashing into the Pacific Ocean off Japan's southwestern coast. One Marine died in the crash, another was injured and five more were lost at sea, according to the Marine Corps. The crash is the latest in a series of accidents involving U.S. military deployments to and near Japan, including a crash last month and another in October. |
