Merry holidays and happy everything. Donald Trump is in Iraq, the government is shut down, and the stock market is doing… shockingly well. It's Boxing Day and it's almost 2019. We got this. |
Trump takes surprise trip to Iraq |
President Donald Trump made his first trip to visit troops in Iraq late Christmas night to "thank them for their service, their success, and their sacrifice," according to a tweet by White House press secretary Sarah Sanders. In case the eggnog has you forgetful, it's been a tumultuous week in the military world: Trump announced he'd withdraw 2,000 troops from Syria, parted ways with defense secretary Jim Mattis, and has been reported to be considering reducing the number of forces in Afghanistan. One thing's for sure – Trump and the troops will have a LOT to talk about. |

Well done, fellow consumerists! Holiday sales grew 5.1 percent this year, making it the best season for retailers in the last 6 years. And for us lazy laptop shoppers, even better job! Online sales were 19.1 percent higher than last year, according to info released by Mastercard. Proud of us. Feeling jealous you didn't get in on the buy-all-the-things magic? There are some crazy-good after-Christmas sales happening right now. You're welcome/I'm sorry. |
Stocks are up the day after Christmas |
Shoppers, pat yourself on the back for this one too, because obviously a miraculous Dec. 26 stock market comeback has all been our doing. Strong retail sales during the holidays (and fine, also a rally in oil prices and White House reassurances that President Trump won't fire the Federal Reserve chairman) have led to a 1,000 point Dow rebound. |
Could Dems be decidin' on Biden? Possibly. |
We may be 679 days away from the 2020 presidential election, but it's never too early to test the pulse of voting Americans! According to a USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll, democratic and independent voters said they'd be excited to see a ballot with 1.) "Someone entirely new," 2.) Joe Biden 3.) Bernie Sanders and … not Hillary Clinton, who came in 10th (last) place. Noted. |
Someone definitely not running for president? Tom Brady |
The only thing the New England Patriots quarterback will be running for post-2019 is touchdowns. The many-time Super Bowl winner, 2017 NFL MVP, Mr. Gisele Bundchen, etc., confirmed in a radio interview his intent to keep playing in the NFL after 2019: "I have goals to not only play next year, but beyond that… I hope I can keep playing, and I hope I can keep playing at a championship level." Good news for Patriots fans, bad news for everyone else who wants a giant ring. |
Ford Taurus? Chevy Impala? Volkswagen Beetle?! We hardly knew thee |
Dearly beloved, we gather here to say our goodbye to several models of popular cars which will be discontinued in the new year. The reason is simple: people are really into SUVs! Edmunds predicts that about 1 in 2 cars sold in 2019 will be SUVs or crossovers. Check out the list of cars being killed here. #rip |
