Two Yankees fans were banned from the next game of the World Series after interfering with a play. Autism is becoming more prevalent in young adults. And a new report showed solid economic growth for the U.S. |
👋Greetings, friends! Laura Davis here. Let's get going with Wednesday's news. |
Yankees to interfering fans: You're out |
It's a common sight at any baseball game: A fly ball heads toward the stands, and spectators scramble to catch it. But in the case of two New York Yankees fans during Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night, there was a problem: Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts was also trying to make the catch along the right-field wall. Betts ended up catching the ball before one fan ripped it out of his glove. |
Playing by the rules: Major League Baseball rules prohibit fans from intentionally preventing a fielder from making a catch. The fans who interfered with Betts − one of whom is a season-ticket holder − were ejected from the game and the Yankees announced Wednesday they would be banned from tonight's Game 5 in the Bronx. ⚾️ Here's everything that happened. | Yankees fans interfere with the Dodgers' Mookie Betts as he tries to make a catch during Tuesday's World Series game in New York. Focusing on battlegrounds | As the days and hours tick down to Election Day, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are focused on the crucial battlegrounds set to determine the race for the White House. Trump is holding two rallies on Wednesday, one in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and another in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Harris will hold rallies in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Raleigh, North Carolina, before traveling to the University Of Wisconsin-Madison. On Tuesday evening, Harris pledged at a rally she would be a president to all who supported her − and all who didn't − as she made a pitch to undecided voters. |
With rise of autism comes more need for support |
Four times as many children have been diagnosed with autism in the past two decades, as awareness and screening improves and definitions evolve, new research shows. |
What to know: A study published Wednesday suggests diagnoses have increased at a faster clip among younger adults over the past decade, spiking 175% among U.S. residents from 2011 to 2022. Experts say the growing rates show that more support is needed for autistic individuals once they become adults. 👉 Take a closer look at the report. |
A third-quarter economy boost |
The economy grew solidly again in the third quarter, bolstering the belief that the U.S. can dodge a recession and raising the odds the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates more modestly in the months ahead. |
What to know: The nation's gross domestic product, the value of all goods and services produced in the U.S., expanded at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 2.8% in the July-to-September period, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. |
What's behind the rise?
