Well, hello there. |
Monday's Olympic action didn't disappoint. The U.S. men's archery team, however, definitely did. |
"Walking away here without a medal wasn't even a reality for this team," Brady Ellison said after a quarterfinals loss to Japan. "It would kind of like (gymnast) Simone Biles not making the cut in all-around. I don't know what else to say besides pissed." |
The win gold-or-else pressure of the Tokyo Games is real for the Americans. Just don't ask Gregg Popovich. And that pressure is perhaps most heavy on the biggest Olympic star – Biles. |
The 24-year old gymnast and her team struggled in qualifying, finishing second for the first time since the 2010 world championships and took to Instagram to let her feelings out afterward. |

🥇 Major Team USA wins: Despite a slow start, Team USA has 14 medals total (one behind China) and seven gold (the most overall). Large credit there goes to swimming, where the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Caeleb Dressel, Blake Pieroni, Bowen Becker, and Zach Apple won. Team USA picked up several gold medals thanks to brilliant performances by skeet shooters Amber English (Olympic record 56 hits) and Vincent Hancock (third gold medal with 59 hits). |
|
👀 What everyone's talking about: Katie Ledecky was upset in the 400-meter freestyle to Australia's Ariarne Titmus by .67 of a second, although it wasn't a complete shocker. Titmus even thanked her rival afterward for getting her there. |
🗞USA TODAY's inside scoop: Is there a price to pay for Team USA's unvaccinated athletes? Nearly 100 American athletes at the Tokyo Olympics are unvaccinated, causing concern among some teammates that it could impact their Games. And our latest in our 10 to watch series: U.S. karateka Sakura Kokumai took long, sometimes lonely, road to Tokyo Olympics. |
🏀 No pressure here: The U.S. men's basketball team is in trouble after an upset to France. The women's team, however, won't be caught napping and is taking the exemplary route in pursuit of another gold. |
⚾ MLB News: We've got you covered with our latest MLB power rankings. Sunday saw the San Diego Padres acquire All-Star second baseman Adam Frazier from Pittsburgh Pirates as teams are open for trade-deadline business. |
