Biden heads to Philadelphia to advocate for voting rights

President Joe Biden will travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday to warn Americans that the constitutional right to vote is in danger and to push back on Republican-led states trying to pass laws that restrict voting access. The president's remarks will come as at least 14 states have enacted laws that restrict voting access following last year's presidential election and as former President Donald Trump continues to spread baseless claims that his loss to Biden was the result of widespread voter fraud. Since taking office, Biden has stressed the importance of voting rights and has tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with leading the administration's efforts to protect ballot access.

Wildfires threaten homes, land across 10 Western states

Wildfires that torched homes and forced thousands to evacuate burned across 10 parched Western states on Tuesday, and the largest, in Oregon, threatened California's power supply. Nearly 60 wildfires tore through bone-dry timber and brush from Alaska to Wyoming, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. Arizona, Idaho and Montana accounted for more than half of the large active fires. The fires erupted as the West was in the grip of the second bout of dangerously high temperatures in just a few weeks. The National Weather Service says the heat wave appeared to have peaked in many areas, and excessive-heat warnings were largely expected to expire by Tuesday.

Emmy nominations incoming, and this is what we're expecting

The 2021 Emmy nominations, which honor programming that aired substantially during the 12 months ending May 31, will be announced Tuesday. They are likely to be a predictable assortment of favorites, with few surprises on the short list for television's biggest honor. While there are plenty of worthy actors and TV shows sure to be honored when the nominees are revealed, we're also guaranteed a slew of snubs of great performances and series. From the expected nominees, such as Jean Smart and "The Crown," to the admirable long shots  ("For All Mankind" and "Superstore"), we pick the TV shows and actors we'd like to see nominated in major categories. It may be a wish list, but it's a deserving one.

FDA warns about possible link between J&J vaccine and Guillain-BarrΓ© syndrome

The Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine is once again raising concerns. The Food and Drug Administration on Monday warned about a possible link between that vaccine and a rare autoimmune disorder known as Guillain-BarrΓ© syndrome. In a statement, the agency said the data "suggests an association" between the vaccine and a higher risk of the condition, but not enough "to establish a causal relationship." The CDC says on its website that people who have had Guillain-BarrΓ© syndrome can be vaccinated against COVID-19 and that no cases of the disorder were reported in clinical trials for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. One case was reported in J&J trials.
