But first: Life on Mars? 🧑🚀 NASA's Perseverance rover collected a sample from the planet that could preserve evidence of ancient microbial life, NASA announced this week. | Authorities are still searching for the shooter who killed Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator and close political ally of President Donald Trump, at an event at Utah Valley University. Authorities said in an update on Thursday that they recovered a high-powered rifle in nearby woods that they believe was used in the shooting and learned new details about a suspect from video being analyzed. An Air Force Two flight home: Vice President JD Vance will fly Kirk's casket and family to Phoenix on Air Force Two. Vance and his wife, Usha, are expected to meet with Kirk's family and close friends in Salt Lake City on Thursday before the flight to Arizona, where Kirk lived with his wife, Erika, and their two children. Vance was a close friend of the charismatic conservative activist. HBCUs on lockdown after threats | Multiple historically Black colleges and universities went into lockdown on Thursday after threats were directed at their campuses, school officials said. Alabama State University, Hampton University, Virginia State University, Southern University and A&M College, and Bethune-Cookman University were locked down in the morning. In recent years, several of the nation's roughly 100 HBCUs have been targeted.
