Dozens of Americans still missing in Nepal floods
Authorities on Thursday said dozens of Americans remained missing among the nearly 1,000 people unaccounted for after flash floods struck Nepal a day earlier. Nepal's tourism board said 31 foreign tourists, including two U.S. citizens −a 52-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man − were rescued. The U.S. State Department also confirmed a third American citizen was rescued. Search and rescue operations remained underway in Nepal as well as part of China for 667 missing travelers, including 127 Nepalese nationals and at least 64 Americans, the tourism board wrote in its update. So far, local media have reported more than 350 deaths.

Is tonight's lunar eclipse worth staying up for?
Yes, you should stay up late for Thursday's lunar eclipse! Or so Nico Cappelluti, an associate professor in astrophysics and cosmology at the University of Miami, told USA TODAY. The eclipse is slated to begin at 9:23 p.m. ET, according to Time and Date. It will end at around 3 a.m. ET Friday. But Cappelluti says you don't have to stay up the entire time to watch the eclipse from start to finish: "Even watching the first part of the eclipse is nice."

Tropical Storm Dolly forms days after Dolly Parton's death
It has nothing to do with Dolly Parton's death, but in a wild coincidence, Tropical Storm Dolly formed on Thursday just days after the death of the country music legend. The storm formed in the Atlantic at 11 a.m. ET, the National Hurricane Center said, becoming the fourth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season. Forecasters said the system is expected to be short-lived because of hostile environmental conditions starting on Friday that will prevent it from developing further.

Six months in, is anyone winning the Iran war?
Friday marks six months since the war in Iran began. And Washington and Teran both question who is winning the fight. Neither side can ultimately win, some veteran Iran analysts say, because the United States and Iran are trapped in a pattern in which Washington believes that overwhelming force and sanctions will eventually compel a weaker country to submit. Iran, meanwhile, has proved as resilient and willing to endure an open-ended war as many seasoned Iran-watchers predicted before the U.S. and Israel launched the war in February.
