South Carolina Sen. Darline Graham faces an unusual election challenge today, as my colleague Terry Collins reports. Appointed in July by Gov. Henry McMaster to serve out the remainder of her late brother Lindsey Graham's term at President Donald Trump's request, she now must persuade Republican voters to send her to the November general election. But can the Trump-endorsed incumbent and political neophyte survive a special runoff election against hardline conservative Rep. Ralph Norman? A Graham victory would be another testament to Trump's clout.

Canada unveils $20B in tariffs |
Canada announced retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion worth of U.S. imports, aiming to match President Trump’s tariffs "dollar for dollar," as our Bart Jansen reports. The action marks an escalation in the growing trade war between the two countries after talks collapsed last week and Trump imposed 50% tariffs on about 5% of Canadian imports. The Canadian duties take effect Sept. 8 and range from 15% to 50% on 700 products.
