Helene strengthens to Category 2, closing in on Florida's panhandle

Some rough seas and wind were the only early signs of Helene in Brevard County, Florida, as the sun rose Sept. 26, 2024.

Almost 80 million people in Florida, Georgia and Alabama were under hurricane and tropical storm warnings.
