FCC, Nexstar, Sinclair and ABC pull Jimmy Kimmel show off-air

Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show was taken off-air after the host's comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk's killing came under harsh criticism from the head of the Federal Communications Commission.

Late-night shake-up: President Donald Trump has repeatedly pressured broadcasters to stop airing content he has found objectionable. Pulling Kimmel comes on the heels of Stephen Colbert's July announcement Paramount, CBS' parent company, planned to cancel "The Late Show."

What did Kimmel say? In his opening monologue Sept. 15, Kimmel said supporters of Trump were "desperately trying to characterize" Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged in Kirk's murder, as "anything other than one of them."
What's the FCC saying? In a Fox News interview Wednesday, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr said it is time for broadcasters and the FCC to fulfill its "unique obligation" of operating in the public interest. He criticized late-night shows for "enforcing a very narrow political ideology."
Some TVs may show something else during Kimmel's slot. The Sinclair Broadcast Group announced plans to air a remembrance special honoring Kirk on all Sinclair stations Friday. The special will be offered to ABC affiliates nationwide.

The Fed just cut interest rates

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday announced a quarter-percentage-point cut, likely the first in a series of reductions to usher in lower borrowing rates for consumers. Fed Chair Powell described the reduction as "a risk-management cut" against the growing downside risks to employment. But with inflation still above the Fed's 2% target — typically justification to raise rates or keep them steady — Powell acknowledged that the Fed faces "no risk-free path" in its decisions moving forward. Are more cuts on the way?

Is the Pennsylvania assault the worst in recent history?

An attack in Pennsylvania that killed three officers and critically injured two others is now among the nation's deadliest tragedies of the last 25 years involving law enforcement. In what officials say was a horrific scene Wednesday, officers following up on a domestic violence-related issue were met with a hail of gunfire in North Codorus Township, a rural area about 10 miles outside of York, Pennsylvania. An ongoing investigation spans over multiple locations in York County.

Tiaras and Trump

President Trump continues a historic second state visit to Britain on Thursday, when he will meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the PM's country retreat. The two leaders will tour archives related to Britain's wartime prime minister, Winston Churchill, hold their official bilateral meeting and host a joint news conference on the grounds of the 16th-century manor house.

Pomp and protests: Trump and first lady Melania Trump got the royal treatment Wednesday, complete with a carriage procession and a State Banquet at Windsor Castle — while protests by some Britons clamored against the gilded visit.

Hours after the highly anticipated Season 3 finale of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" aired, Amazon Prime Video announced that the series will officially conclude with a feature film, written and directed by none other than Jenny Han, author of the beloved book trilogy. Details about the storyline are "still under wraps," but the story will likely pick up with a slightly older and wiser Belly (Lola Tung) and Conrad (Christopher Briney) as they move toward the next phase in their relationship. The news was announced at the series' finale red carpet celebration in Paris, France. Très chic.
