The high cost of cancer drugs π

Patricia Brown, an accomplished cook who's battling lung cancer, checked into a California clinic for an infusion of Keytruda, a blockbuster cancer drug made by Merck. The cost for a 400 mg dose: $162,567.74. Brown, who has insurance, had to pay about $2,000, but the six-figure price tag shows how costs balloon in the U.S. health care system — and how insurers, patients, employers and taxpayers are often on the hook for those costs.

A new book about Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. draws on the Democratic scion-turned-Trump Cabinet member 's own diaries, and includes intimate details: the pressures he felt to live up to an iconic American name; the grief over the violent deaths of his father and his uncle; his struggles with addiction and infidelity and his ultimate rise to the highest echelons of political power. The source of the book came from a source tied to Kennedy's late second wife, who died by suicide in 2012.

Utah's Great Salt Lake, which Gov. Spencer Cox called the state's "heritage and our responsibility," is dying. Can $1 billion in federal assistance help the state acquire more water and address environmental concerns, and preserve and protect this vital body of water?
|
A winter with disastrously low snowfall is complicating those plans. The lake has been shrinking for decades as farmers divert melting snow and rain for crops and cattle, and climate change is altering weather patterns across the West, warming temperatures, increasing evaporation and reducing snowpack.
