After taking a slow, meandering path across the Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Storm Francine is gathering speed and is expected to reach hurricane status later Tuesday before moving over Louisiana's shore on Wednesday. |
What they're saying: "The storm is starting to get its act together," AccuWeather hurricane expert Alex Dasilva said, adding that the warm waters of the Gulf were "rocket fuel" for the system. |

School resumes in Barrow County |
Under a heavy law enforcement presence, classes resumed Tuesday for most of the 15,000 students in Barrow County, Georgia – except for Apalachee High School, where two students and two teachers were shot and killed last week. |
