@RebeccaMorin_

Hello! I'm Rebecca Morin, senior national news reporter at USA TODAY. It's feeling like fall today in D.C. Connect with me at rdmorin@usatoday.com.

7 days until the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. 63 days until Election Day. And one day since the end of Brat summer, at least according to Charli XCX.

Harris heads into Trump debate with lead, rising enthusiasm

Democrats are riding high right now as the general election inches closer. With Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, leading Donald Trump, the GOP nominee, Democrats feel like their prospects have brightened and Republicans' confidence is shaken, a new USA TODAY/Suffolk Poll found. Read more.

Key points: 68% of Harris supporters say they are excited about voting for her, compared to Trump at 60% among his own backers.
Enthusiasm for Harris is more than when President Joe Biden was in the race, where only 30% of voters said they were "very excited" to vote for him.
Video: Uneasy about what the polls say? Here's what to know about 2024 election polling.

Another sign Democrats' confidence is growing in the election: The Harris campaign and Democratic National Committee transferred nearly $25 million to support down ballot Democrats. USA TODAY White House correspondent Joey Garrison breaks down the numbers.

You asked, On Politics answers: Why are women supporting Trump?

Appreciate all the questions I've been getting! Here's one from an On Politics reader: "Why are so many women supporting Trump?"

While Donald Trump has some high profile women supporting him, including former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, there is actually a growing gender gap of support for the former president and Democrat Kamala Harris. In the latest USA TODAY/Suffolk poll, of those who support Trump, 51% are men and 36% are women. The breakdown for those supporting Harris are 57% women and 38% men.
