TSA agents still go unpaid today

The Senate unanimously passed a dark-of-night bill early Friday to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security, securing a path to ending the weekslong shutdown that has left airports in turmoil.

The late-night dealmaking came after Trump said earlier in the evening that  he would pay Transportation Security Administration workers  with or without the help of Congress. But Senate Democrats ultimately were comfortable with ending a shutdown without the concessions they'd repeatedly said were nonnegotiable at the start.

Airport chaos isn't over yet: The measure still has to pass the House of Representatives before going to Trump's desk.

More news to know now

U.S. troops to the Middle East: A thousands troops from the 82nd Airborne Division — which specializes in parachute assaults — are headed to join the Iran war. The Pentagon has not released details about exactly where they're headed, but Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf is attracting outsized attention for its strategic importance.
Democrats hope and worry: California's primary could hand the governor's race to Republicans, while Democrats cheer polling leads in Maine's Senate primary.
Strain on American's farms: Farmers are struggling with the impact of tariffs and the Iran war, which is affecting fuel and fertilizer costs.

'Mom, can you drop me at the mall?'

That's a sentence you haven't heard in a while. But Gen Z are increasingly heading back to shopping malls, driven by experiences and a desire to bust out of the isolation of home. They are returning to value-oriented shopping malls, which have stores and brands that are often also located in suburban strip malls rather than high-end luxury brands, experts told USA TODAY. Where are the best malls in the U.S.?
