A deadly school shooting rocked a Georgia community. A polio vaccination campaign in Gaza is making progress. And why it might be time to back away from the Botox.

👋Howdy, pals! Laura Davis here. Just FYI: I'll be off tomorrow, but have no fear! My good friend Julius will be bringing you all the news to know. Hope you have a great weekend! Now, let's get you caught up on what's been happening on Wednesday.

4 dead in shooting at Georgia high school

Four people were shot and killed and several others were injured Wednesday morning at a high school in Georgia, sending shock waves through the Atlanta suburb of Winder.

What else we know: Two students and two teachers were killed, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said, and a 14-year-old student was in custody, facing murder charges. Nine other people were taken from Apalachee High School to hospitals with injuries, officials said.

From the White House: President Joe Biden said he and first lady Jill Biden are mourning those killed in the shooting and demanded that Congress move to pass gun control legislation.

👉 This is a developing story. Here's what we know now.

War pauses for polio vaccines

A polio vaccination program that has brought three days of pauses in fighting to central areas of Gaza resulted in "great progress" with about 187,000 children receiving doses, the U.N. said Wednesday.

What to know: After the type 2 poliovirus paralyzed at least one baby, the U.N.'s campaign hopes to vaccinate an estimated 640,000 children. The pauses in fighting, lasting several hours each day, must be respected for the program to succeed, the U.N. Relief and Works Agency said. Its goal is to reach 90% vaccination coverage, which the agency says is crucial to stopping an outbreak. 👉 More updates from Gaza.

Feds charge Russians in election misinformation scheme

Two Russian citizens have been charged with directing a $10 million campaign to influence the 2024 election through online platforms that flooded millions of Americans with disinformation, Attorney General Merrick Garland said Wednesday.

What we know: The complaint focused on RT, a Russian state media network. The company bankrolled a $10 million campaign through a Tennessee company to distribute Russian misinformation to U.S. social media influencers and encourage divisions in U.S. politics, Garland said. 🔎 Here's a closer look.

Is Gen Z too young for Botox?

Many Gen Zers are known for embracing all things skincare and anti-aging − but has their obsession with Botox gone too far?

Botox-tok: On TikTok, the #botox tag has accumulated 1.3 million posts, with some in their early 20s even going viral for looking much older than they actually are, thanks to overdoing Botox, fillers and other cosmetic treatments.

What they're saying: Botox for Gen Zers "is mostly not necessary and just a real source of anxiety," dermatologist Dr. Brooke Jeffy says. So when is the right time to consider Botox – if at all? 👀 What to know.
