Why Joe Kent just resigned |
After less than a year on the job, Joe Kent, head of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center resigned March 17, saying he "cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran." |
"Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby," Kent, a decorated former Army Ranger and CIA paramilitary officer, wrote in a letter to President Donald Trump, who slammed Kent for his words. |
In the letter, Kent invoked the death of his wife, Shannon Kent, who was killed in an ISIS suicide bombing in Syria in 2019, saying: "I cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people nor justifies the cost of American lives." |
