Tornadoes left a trail of destruction across rural Mississippi and Alabama overnight Friday, killing at least 26 people , razing buildings and plunging thousands of homes into darkness. The Federal Emergency Management Agency said 2,000 homes in Mississippi were damaged or destroyed. Another tornado hit near Cannonville, Georgia, on the Alabama border Sunday, leaving behind "significant damage," the LaGrange Daily News reported. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced plans on Saturday to station tactical nuclear weapons in neighboring Belarus , a warning to the West as it steps up military support for Ukraine. Netanyahu fires minister who wanted to delay controversial reform plan |
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday fired his defense minister , a day after the high-ranking official called for a pause on a controversial judicial reform proposal that has fueled months of intense protests. The defense minister, Yoav Gallant, said Saturday that the judicial overhaul posed a security threat to Israel. Military reservists have refused to sign up for duty and many more have threatened to do the same.
